8pm- Film: the WORLD PREMIER of tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE’s 348th movie: “Selectric Piano; Po, Li, Ou; & Anagrammatic Variations” tENT’s friend in Greensboro, NC, Mark Dixon, took an IBM Selectric Typewriter & repurposed it so that typing each key has a one-to-one correspondence to an 88-key keyboard which is played as a result of the typing. This device is called the “Selectric Piano”.
tENT wrote 4 highly abstruse & formally exacting texts that 2 typists
then typed using the Selectric. The combination of these texts + the (M)Usic
their typing produces + the overall claustrophobia of the situation
is quasi-documented in this experimental feature.

6pm- WORKSHOP- Join Unmasked of Pittsburgh for a poetry workshop: Using the tools of active imagination, embodiment and mythology we will encourage participants to engage in an inner dialogue with images from their dreams and creative imagination. Throughout the session various writing, movement, and mediations are employed to aid in the path to each individual’s creative center. Journaling is emphasized and participants will have an original poem after the workshop’s conclusion.
Led by Christina Frasher, an artist and Jungian Life Coach and Emily Hanser, a local writer and poet, Unmasked is a local organization that seeks to increase creative awareness and contribute to sustainability of communities through the arts. More information can be found at:

7pm- Reading: Species of Night- Air & Nothingness Press: Todd Sanders lives in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he works as a graphic designer, poet and translator. In 1999 he formed the Air and Nothingness Press (aanpress.com) to facilitate the publishing of his translations of French Surrealist poet Robert Desnos. To date he has published five books of translations by Desnos – The Circle and The Star (2000), The Secret Book For Youki (2001), Calixto (2004), Mythmaking (2006), and Voyage in Burgundy (2008). He also has three published collections of his own poetry – Underland (1997) , Lack River (1998), Species of Night (2010).

12pm – Workshop: Flash Fiction Free-For-All – by John Edward Lawson, Raw Dog Screaming Press: New modes of technology often create new types of art. The internet and handheld devices have given birth to a new type of short story called flash fiction or micro fiction, often 200 words or less. But just because a piece is short doesn’t mean it can’t have lasting value. Author and editor John Edward Lawson will lead a workshop for anyone interested in learning more about flash fiction, tips for writing it, and markets for publication. Bring your writing notebook and join the fun. Prizes will be given for the best pieces written. All participants will have the option of having their piece published on the Raw Dog Screaming Press web site. Refreshments will be served. – Free
1pm: Workshop: Product Photography for websites (Etsy, Ebay, etc) – by Christian Khale - Scope of workshop: Covers photography basics to produce a better picture for use on websites. Will cover lighting (natural, constant on and flash) as well as using a light box.
2 – 3pm – Workshop: In the Footsteps of Renegades: A History of Greenfield – by Anita Kulina: Anita Kulina will take us on a virtual history tour of Greenfield, which until 1868 was part of Squirrel Hill. With photos of current locales linking you to the past, you’ll learn the history of sites you may drive by every day. She’ll take us back as far as the days when Squirrel Hill was a hunting ground for Indians, and she’ll show us sites which in the past were coal mines, brickyards and forts. She’ll tell us stories of bootleggers, prizefighters, acrobats, “white Indians” and other renegades. Everyone who attends this talk will receive access to a free downloadable ebook detailing these historical sites. With this ebook, you can take this tour at your leisure and actually walk in the footsteps of the fascinating people who were the early residents of Squirrel Hill and Greenfield.

4pm – Workshop: Show; Don’t Tell. – by Rebecca O’Connell
Children’s author Rebecca O’Connell shows you the secret trick to making your writing come to life. Participants will have the chance to do a quick writing exercise and share their work. (Participants are invited, but not required, to share.) This program is for young writers (about ages 8-12) and their grownups.

Alex Eaves is the owner of STAY VOCAL, a Green America certified ReUse apparel brand. But he doesn’t just promote reuse, he lives and breathes it. One of his twitter followers aptly called him “a one man reuse army.” Eaves was originally inspired to start his apparel brand after years in the band merchandise world, touring with artists like 311, Anti-Flag, Blink-182, and Green Day. He saw the mass production and waste of new merchandise and knew he could do something to change it. In 2008, he won a best small business idea for STAY VOCAL and in 2009 and 2010, the brand was a top 10 finalist for Green America’s Business of the Year. These days, Eaves sees endless areas for “green” improvement with reuse and has begun mentoring and consulting other businesses; encouraging them to learn about both the monetary and planetary benefits of reuse. 1 – 3pm : Workshop: Poetry – Edward Murray- Writing from a prompt participants will see how art and poetry is all around us. The craft of writing short stories, sketches, art, poetry, short dramas, and other literary forms for personal enjoyment. (song lyrics, books, greeting cards, and in nature and the world around us)
2pm-Workshop: Bind Your Own Hardcover Journals; Jesse Harold -Use discarded hardcover books to create unique, durable, personal sketchbooks! A step-by-step demonstration of a traditional, sewn binding and also a paperback-style “perfect” glue binding. Both methods are easy, with plenty of room for fancy-fication. They use everyday materials, and can cost you less than $2 per journal. Thorough reference materials will be provided so that you can run right home and start making your own books. 12-2pm: Kid’s Event: Storytime at Fleeting Pages- with Michael Scotto Children’s author Michael Scotto will read his picture book, “The Pirate Koostoe,” as well as a sneak preview of his upcoming Pittsburgh-set novel, “Latasha and the Little Red Tornado.” Other children’s authors are invited to read their own work (or just their favorite storybook) as well. Time permitting, there will be a brief Q&A with the authors after the reading. Ages 5-12. – Free
1:30pm – Workshop: Exquisite Corpse Zine Jam
Come make some art, think about bodies and what makes them human, and create a communal Exquisite Corpse zine. Artist Jesse Harold will lead a series of fun drawing exercises that will loosen up your thinking about drawing, storytelling and about representing bodies. We will work as a group to create a series of drawings and texts during the workshop, which will be bound and printed as a limited-edition zine. No artistic training of any kind necessary. Seriously. 7pm -Reading: Hosted by Black Lawrence Press: Kevin Pilkington is a member of the writing faculty at Sarah Lawrence College and teaches a workshop in the graduate department at Manhattanville College. He is the author of six collections: his collection Spare Change was the La Jolla Poets Press National Book Award winner and his chapbook won the Ledge Poetry Prize.
8:30pm -Reading: with Roger Bonair-Agard: A native of Trinidad and Tobago, Roger Bonair-Agard is a poet who lives in Chicago. Bonair-Agard was a member of the 1997 Nuyorican Poets Cafe Poetry Slam team and later coached the 1998 Nuyorican Poets Cafe Poetry Slam team, which went on to win the National Poetry Slam Championship that year in Austin, TX. He then co-founded the louderARTS Project and has been on the 1999, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007 louderARTS Poetry Slam teams. In 1999, he won the individual competition at the National Poetry Slam. He is currently the Artistic Director for louderARTS.

He’s been spotted around town wearing a sandwich board that says, “Terrible American Fiction.” His work has been published in The Dissociated Writing Project Free Journal; fliers of his short work have been passed out on buses and exhibited in art shows. He calls himself a household name that nobody’s ever heard of.
9pm-Reading:
a riotous tour through a messy queer punk house, starring four housemates and an unruly compost pile with a secret tucked inside. Also featured: catastrophic illness, bountiful dumpsters, hot queer makeouts, kale, solidarity, girl love, the families we make when our own abandon us, and oh so much more. Ocean Capewell is the creator of the long-running, well-loved zine High on Burning Photographs and has given many a rousing zine reading–most recently at the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh’s “Zines & Feminism” event.
